There are a lot of reasons to dislike President Obama. Gas prices are giving American wallets a serious case of diarrhea. Our debt is higher than a hippie on the International Space Station. Our borders are about as secure as a Secret Service room in Columbia. But despite all of his policy snafus, the fact of the matter is that the president is not doing his job.
As our Constitution was written, one aspect of the government it created was very clear: the separation of powers. The legislative branch would write the laws, the judicial branch would interpret the laws, and the executive branch would enforce the laws. All of Obama’s speeches, policy pushing, and dog eating is just extra crap. By definition, “Executive Branch,” implies that his primary job is to enforce the laws. President Obama just isn’t doing that.
Let’s go back to last year. An announcement came down that President Obama would not enforce the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA). In other words, Obama is deciding not enforce a law and therefore, he’s decided not to fulfill his primary responsibility. But hey, if I spent a combined total of three months on the golf course, I’d have a hard time doing my job too. According to Attorney General Eric Holder, the president believes that the DOMA violates the equal protection component of the 5th amendment. While it’s very clear that the DOMA isn’t a Constitutional violation (With the woman’s consent, any gay man has the right to marry her. It’s the same for straight guys), Obama is overstepping his authority here. Last time I checked, the judicial branch determines if a law is unconstitutional. But somehow Obama has apparently made himself the whole Supreme Court without any Congressional approval. It’s a Constitutional miracle!
Let’s pretend I concede the point. I would then ask why our president has decided to completely ignore The New Black Panther Party’s bounty for George Zimmerman. They’ve circulated posters saying Zimmerman is wanted dead or alive, yet there have been no arrests. The DOJ has been completely silent on the issue. Mikhail Muhammad mentioned that they have received funds from athletes and entertainers. Why hasn’t there been an investigation into who these people are? I’m not a lawyer, but I would imagine someone who funds a hit is guilty of a crime.
What does this administration do? Holder praises “Reverend” Al Sharpton for his “…tireless efforts to speak out for the voiceless, to stand up for the powerless…” Voiceless and powerless, huh? That reminds me of Zimmerman when he was in hiding. These threats deprived Zimmerman of his 5th Amendment rights. You know, the same amendment that Holder cited for not backing the DOMA.
The government has been striking down efforts by states to require photo identification when voting. The photo ID movement has been an effort to prevent voter fraud. James O’Keefe’s Project Veritas has exposed how easy it is for someone to commit voter fraud, yet the Justice Department blocked the law in South Carolina. So let me get this straight: The Obama Administration is blocking a law designed to prevent people from breaking a law in a state that Obama has next to no chance of winning in November. This is a brilliant move by the Left.
Holder claims that the law might prevent minorities from voting. What about those dead minorities that have evil Republicans voting in their name and soiling their reputation? South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley is looking out for them. Holder isn’t.
If racism is the problem, the rules for getting a passport are preventing minorities from getting the ability to leave the country. So if this country ever tanks, a possibility if Obama and his Keynesian ways win in November, minorities won’t be able to leave the disaster. This begs the question: President Obama, why do you destroy our economy but fail to help minorities leave?
Let’s not forget “Fast and Furious.” It’s very possible that the FBI, DOJ, and the DHS are all involved in the operation that caused the death of two American law enforcement agents. Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry was killed in December, 2010. Here we are, almost a year and a half out and there’s no justice for Terry and his family. It’s a good thing we’ve got Roger Clemens getting a second trial following a mistrial. Of course the Obama administration isn’t allegedly tied to the Clemens case.
But in all fairness, sometimes the Obama administration actually does something proactive when they’re not ignoring laws or striking down others. Remember when the federal government raided Gibson Guitar? Now given that the government has turned a blind eye to enforcing voter laws and a crime that involves the death of American law enforcement agents, Gibson must have done something seriously wrong like selling nuclear weapons to Iran or talking during a movie. Nope. Gibson was supposedly using the wrong wood. The families of Terry and Jaime Zapata have got to be feeling great. The government can’t investigate why their loved ones died because they’re too concerned with an American and musical icon using the wrong wood to make guitars. That’s more important than losing loved ones or Americans potentially losing their jobs.
This pick-and-choose approach to enforcing the law is extremely dangerous. Essentially the President has removed the powers of both the legislative and judicial branches. If Congress was to override a Presidential veto, what’s to stop him from just not enforcing the law they passed? It’s essentially an ex post facto veto and the Constitution doesn’t provide any way for Congress to deal with that.
With Obama and Holder declaring the DOMA unconstitutional, why do we even have a Supreme Court? Essentially, Obama’s approach to his job has consolidated the powers of the other branches into the Executive Branch. If he’s going to do that, could he at least use that consolidated power to stop George Lucas from making crappy Star Wars and Indiana Jones sequels. The damage that guy has done to my childhood is devastating.
Even those on the Left should be worried about this road Obama’s on. Let’s say the Buffett Rule gets passed (while we’re at it, let’s say ObamaCare leads to every child getting a unicorn. It’s just as likely right now). Mitt Romney then shows up in the White House in January and he instructs the IRS to not enforce that rule. While he’s at it, he instructs every department to ignore any law passed by any Democratic president. The string of profanity on Twitter from the Left would be long enough to be knitted into a PG-13 blanket big enough to keep every Occupy camp warm during the winter.
Perhaps instead of running around this country telling Americans that we need to “pass this bill,” and that we need to use algae to power our cars, our President could try his hand at doing his job. It’d be a nice change of pace from the golf course. Well, it’d be a nice change of pace for America at least.
