Broga and Mantyhose and Stilettos, Oh My!

Broga- yoga for men
manty hose/brosury
murse
bromance
man skirt (not kilts)
heels for men
This is not a drag queen’s closet. These are the up-and-coming ”fashions and trends” for the everyday male. Actually they’re not. They are the wussification of men.
I was in Detroit a year and half ago to see some friends. While riding through the Arabic district after lunch one day, I saw a man step out of a barber shop in neatly pressed black pants, white button-down shirt, black vest, and bright red stilettos.  Yup, stilettos – in the Arabic district of Detroit.
We are seeing an entire country teeming with feminized males. Barely a day goes by when I don’t hear or read about how women are the warriors of our movement or men are too weak or we don’t have enough people on the front lines or [insert any number of things you've heard, read, or said.]
Q: So whose fault is this? Who do we wag a disapproving finger at? Who do we lecture?
A: Everyone. We all have taken part in this wussification.
Fault lies with the parents who don’t let their boys play cops and robbers or build forts or have toy guns and epic space battles with alien overlords, and instead give this next generation of men a green light to wear dresses and makeup while forbidding their girls play to with dolls because dolls are anti-feminist. Fault lies with the overly zealous citizens who push for men only clubs to include women for “fairness’ sake.” Fault lies in those who don’t teach manners, respect, and chivalry. Fault lies in consumers for financially supporting the de-genderization of our clothes, and thus ourselves. Fault lies in Conservatives who don’t speak louder AND act, because what’s the point of saying something if we don’t have action to back it up?
Fault lies with you, men: it lies with you when you ignore chivalry. It lies with you when you don’t step up and be an active father. It lies with you when you don’t use the tools each of you have to make a difference and turn around this wayward thinking and behavior. It lies with you when you hesitate instead of act. It lies with you when you give up.
Fault lies with you, women: It lies with you when you verbally castrate a man for being a man. It lies with you when you teach your sons to be more “sensitive” and yet teach your daughters to ”be more like a man.” It lies with you when you put on a facade and insist you’re stronger when, in some cases, you are weaker and need help. It lies with you when you let liberals speak for you under the guise of feminism. It lies with you when you don’t celebrate your own femininity.
But fault also lies with me. It lies with me for every reason above and for not having the gumption, for so long, to go with my gut and be what’s right with America.

Cross dressing is no big deal there are straight men who like wearing woman’s shoes and in some cases underwear. Who cares there are many more important things for us the worry about

This is something to care about. Blurring the lines between what makes men and women unique has contributed to the deterioration of respect for the individual and thus our society crumbles. It’s not the sole issue but it is a contributing factor.

By embracing our glorious differences we embrace what makes this country so great.

Pieces like this illustrate just how wide the gulf between libertarians and conservatives really is….

I love free markets and limited government, but when you start talking about things like gender identity and traditional gender roles I can do nothing but roll my eyes.

Who care if men wear heels, dresses or carry a purse? If that’s what they want to wear, more power to them.

Who cares if men want to practice yoga? Guess what a lot of professional athletes use yoga and pilates as part of their training, just as many athletes have used ballet as part of their training.

A man wants to get a manicure, let him get a manicure. If he wants to use product in his hair, let him use product in his hair. In the end, these transactions contribute to a vibrant private-sector economy, which is all I really care about.

Chivalry is not something only the “good ol’ boys” practice.

Our existence precedes our essence. We are all born blank slates and spend every day defining ourselves. We should not be slaves to traditional gender roles or stereotypes, but find the ones that best work for us and our families.

My friend, all I can say is you’ve missed the point completely.

    • Josh says:
      April 13, 2012 at 2:25 pm

Miss Ruth, I get the point. You think things would be much better in this country if “men were men” and “women were women.” You posit that the reason so many have strayed from their traditional gender roles is because of the way they were raised–(i.e. men taught to be more sensitive and women taught to be tougher).

I dispute both points. First, people stray from traditional gender roles because we evolve as humans and the traditional gender roles of 1950 are no longer relevant.

Forcing everyone to return to their traditional gender roles would not make anything better in this country. Instead, it would just lead to a more oppressed race of people.

      Josh,

“First, people stray from traditional gender roles because we evolve as humans and the traditional gender roles of 1950 are no longer relevant.”

I’m sorry but I disagree with you totally. Divorce rates are at their highest numbers and climbing. Until very recently, teen pregnancies were increasing substantially. The traditional family unit has fallen on hard times. The financial security of America’s families is in a deplorable state (due to infidelity, divorce, and per-maritial relationships).

Americans are reporting a greater and greater dissatisfaction with their relationships and our spending on mood stabilizers, enhancers, depressants, therapy, and so forth has never been greater.

      Why?

It is because we have “forced” men and women out of their gender roles. Now that is not to say it is because men are spending more time with their families and women more time in the workforce. Those are not gender roles…they’re what the Left like to point to as gender roles.

Gender roles relate to behavior. Men today want to be masculine, but feminism has taught us that this is wrong and violent (we’re all rapists, but we just don’t realize it). The Left has taught women, not to get jobs (my grandmother worked harder in the 20′s than any woman today), but to be masculine, uncompromising, and demanding.

So marriages are delayed, filled with dissatisfaction, and end in financially crippling divorce. then we have a single mother who is devoted to government support…a sure vote for democrats.

We also have men who cannot put a definition to honor, fidelity, courage, and morality (because that is tied into their masculinity…which is evil). We have men turning to crime, not because they’re starving to death, but because they don’t differentiate between a masculine man who provides for a family, and a thief.

It is the Left that has FORCED this upon us…not the other way around.

      April 13, 2012 at 4:49 pm

Joshua, the fact that you assign a male pronoun to God says a lot and leads me to believe that our ideas of who and what God is are quite different.

I view God as a being beyond both gender and pronouns. I would never refer to God as “he” or “she.”

As I said earlier, I believe our existence precedes our essence, which means we must define ourselves, with the help of God, throughout the course of lives. As part of this process, we might discover that what might work for others with our chromosomes, might not work for us.

Our chromosomes determine our primary and secondary sexual characteristics only. They do not define who we are a person (i.e. how we dress, how we handle our emotions, our interests, etc.), neither should the government. Individually, we should be able to decide these things on our own.

    • Joshua says:
      April 13, 2012 at 5:33 pm

      Josh,

Again, we see your libertarian/liberal tenacity for declaring “different” truths as THE TRUTH. Does it really matter that I use the masculine pronoun in tradition of 2000 years of recorded worship and two billion Christians on planet Earth are likely to do?

No. But nice try at a deflecting the issue. The matter at hand is people, not God.

“I believe our existence precedes our essence, which means we must define ourselves, with the help of God, throughout the course of lives. As part of this process, we might discover that what might work for others with our chromosomes, might not work for us.”

This might work well for a personal philosophy…but not in the context of society. Society exists to give us a framework that we may enhance our survival and prosperity.

To claim that the framework…is whatever you choose it to be…undermines society at every turn.

Imagine people treating highway shoulders as lanes and running red lights when no one else was around.

One could easily say…hey, no harm there! Nobody got hurt!

And they’d be right if it happened in defiance of society, but only occasionally due to societies laws and mores.

Extend this behavior to the masses, and tons of people will get hurt. Insurance rates skyrocket. Fewer people can drive. Economic disadvantages ensue. Innocents hurt or killed. And why?

Because a few people flouted the rules. Now I agree that rules should have a moral relevance, and that government is only occasionally the best enforcer of social rules. That’s where libertarians and conservatives agree.

But where we disagree is the libertarian mindset that “right” or “proper” or “moral” or “acceptable” are relative. They are not. Morality is an absolute. “Right” and “Proper” are absolute measurements society takes. And “Acceptable” is a definable and predictable variance from these measurements.

We are all born naked. External trappings are all human creation. Who cares who wears what or who opens the door for who. One life to get through. As long as you do it with respect for all creatures. Men will always be men and women, women and one will need the other if there are to be more men and women.

I agree to some extent with her thesis. Boys aren’t able to be boys anymore. Part of that is self inflicted. There are too many distractions that we didn’t have a long time ago. Back in the good old days, we played army with sticks and engaged in the occasional fist fight. We actually held jobs and were interested in girls…not other boys. Which brings me to the next comment. The part that is missing is addressing the problem with girls. It seems it’s grown to the point where it’s fashionable for girls to be lesbians. It’s even encouraged by other adults. Or, the other extreme is promiscuity. Somehow, I partially blame it on religion. It didn’t do it’s job or I should say it’s followers didn’t do theirs. Scripture got lost. People went astray. However, most of it has to do with the breakdown of the moral fabric of this country. Now it’s anything goes. It rapidly turned into a hedonist society of really degenerate, uninteresting, culturally void people. I’m not a conservative, I just have morals and values. Chances are, if you gearing up to flame back and tell me I have no right to impose my ideals of morals and values on people…or that it’s a “free country with rights…blah, blah” … I don’t care. Go to hell in advance. I’m on the side that wants to eradicate you. Good luck with your rapid decent into the abyss. The decline of Western civilization is right around the corner. أشهد أن لا إله إلاَّ الله و أشهد أن محمد رسول الله

I really hope that last couple of lines wasn’t aimed at me! Because you had me mostly agreeing with you up to that point.

The only reason the issue with girls is left out of my piece was to focus on one side at a time.

      God bless.

It’s not about going back to the “traditional gender roles of 1950.” It’s about a liberal mindset that pushes an agenda for everyone to be neutral or at least insist we not teach any tradtional values or roles.

It’s less about gender roles and more about WHY we have a lack in celebrating who God made us to be and using this as a strength instead of marketing it as weakness or bad.

So yes, you missed the point.

Expressing yourself is part of celebrating who God made you. Determining your gender identity and all that entails is all part of expressing ones self, and thus celebrating that which God hath made. For some, this might involve defying traditional gender roles and identity.

    • Joshua says:
      April 13, 2012 at 4:03 pm

      Josh,

Your logic is inconsistent. If God has made you one gender, but you believe yourself to be another, then you are defying God…not embracing Him.

The human will has always been rebellious to convention. The question becomes…is this rebellion dangerous to the individual and to society?

As to the individual, it places one at odds with social convention. It creates a lifestyle that is incompatible with the rest of society. It often leads to childless, empty, self-serving, and sexually-oriented lives. Studies have shown that conformity leads to longer, happier, more contented lives. Should this not, therefore, be encouraged?

As to society, a few individuals will always divert from the norm. That is of no concern. But this concept that there is no “norm” and that free expression is actually the “norm” is socially disruptive. Gender roles only survive as long as there are practical reasons for them. But there is zero evidence that the time of the aggressive, masculine, dominant man has passed, nor the nurturing, maternal, and wise woman.

In fact, the most recent decade of recession and war, has called upon these qualities and found them lacking in both sexes.

The bottom line, is you cannot offer no standard and say “here is the new standard”. Reality sets in, and determines our modes of behavior. If survival and prosperity was incumbent on passive males and dominant females, society would shift. But the artificial influence of the Left on these factors is merely a disruption, created for political gain.

It seems to me that Miss Ruth’s intention with this piece of work is simply to highlight the ridiculousness of a push in our culture to create a genderless/ambiguous society. The fact is that this likely began with the feminist revolution to create more equality and respect for women in a society that seemingly had none. Once again, as with many things in human cultures, we have taken a constructive, useful, even courageous thing and pushed it past the point of useful.
It is disgraceful for us as a society to have allowed this to happen to men, just so that women can feel powerful. That having been said, Miss Ruth is specifically saying that it is not the men who have been groomed to be ok with immasculation and have fallen into effeminate behavior or mannerisms who are to be loathed, blamed, or scorned. On the contrary, it is those of us (and we are many) who have seen a problem and failed to act who hold a large part of the blame. Moreover, those who have fought for this to be the norm and have not recognized the hypocricy hold at least as much, if not more blame for their lack of insight.
It isn’t right for a man to feel inferior, fearful, or hated simply because he has a penis, anymore than it was ever alright for a woman to feel these things for having breasts or a vagina. Those of us who have remained silent and watched it happen are now charged with the responsibility to speak up and do something about it. What are you willing to do?
