This week, the fine folks at Media Matters for America couldn’t believe Dana Loesch said women use their cycles to avoid pregnancy!
Because that’s like totally not possible.
WRONG! It is possible. It’s called Natural Family Planning, you morons. I know about this because I have used it to conceive two children and avoid any pregnancies in between the two. Before I continue I must warn you I’m going to get graphic. Blame the idiots at MMfA. Also, in the interest of full disclosure, I will note that I write for Big Journalism, the website Dana Loesch edits. She is also a very good friend of mine.
My favorite website is Fertility Friend. I also really like American Pregnancy. The most commonly used method is temperature taking. You buy a basal body thermometer, and you take your basal body temperature every single morning at the same time. When your temperature slowly declines, it means your body is about to ovulate. When your temperature spikes it means you have ovulated. Here is a sample chart:
You can also use ovulation kits and monitors. For ovulation kits, you pee on a stick and if the line that appears on the stick is perfectly clear, you ovulate in 12-24 hours. For the monitors, you pee on a stick everyday and the monitor will tell you when you’re fertile. I did both of these as well. They worked out great!
Now the wonderful part: CERVICAL MUCUS! There are some women that track their fertility by their cervical mucus. As you get closer to ovulation, you leak more mucus. The fertile day is when the mucus is slippery and stretchy, similar to egg whites.
Believe it or not, some women also check their cervices for ovulation. I wasn’t able to do it, but it’s awesome how you can! Yes, a woman can check her cervix for ovulation. The cervix changes positions during her cycle. When she ovulates, the cervix S.H.O.W.s. It is Soft, sits High, is Open, and is Wet.
Women can also suffer from a pain, from mild to extremely severe, when the ovary ejects the egg. It’s called Mittelschmerz.
There are some other general signs. When a woman is about to ovulate, and after she does, she tends to nest and become more tired. This is your body telling you to take it easy and get ready for a baby. After you ovulate this comes in handy because your body wants to protect the fertilized egg. Women also tend to eat a lot more during this time because the body wants to add more fat on the body to give the baby more cushion. Breasts are also extremely tender.
The most obvious sign of ovulation is SEX! Yes when a woman is about to ovulate she is extremely horny. MAKES SENSE. The week of ovulation, a woman wants sex non-stop.
I track my cycle so well, I can tell you I am about to ovulate. Guess what. My husband and I are abstaining from sex because we don’t want to have a baby right now. If we did want a baby, we’d be having sex. I don’t take the pill because it made me gain weight, made me extremely cranky, and killed my sex drive. I’d rather do it the natural way since it’s so incredibly easy.
I hope the pie on your face is good MMfA. For an organization that prides itself on fact-checking, you might want to start doing it or else you’re going to end up with more pie on your face. QUIT LYING.

You don’t understand.. liberal “planning” as in “Planned Parenthood” has to include the death of a child. Conservative planning actually means taking responsibility for your actions…
Well said!
BREAKING: the basement dwellers at MMFA don’t understand women
That’s because liberal “womyn” aren’t really “women” the way Conservative women are.
Wouldn’t say this is graphic, but I was raised by a labor&delivery nurse, so this is noooothing.
That said, if NFP works for you, great. I just think the pill&condoms are better for other women who will mess this up-and we don’t even have to talk about unmarried women. Married women should have contraceptive choices that work for them.
I think you just stumped over half of California’s women. Lol
I just love it when liberals think they are making fun of how stupid conservatives are but end up proving they are the giant morons. It makes me smile. Also, whenever it happens, an angel gets its wings.
LOL angel wings.
Holy crap, we get to talk about cervical mucus at Misfit Politics! This place is AWESOME!
(seriously, though, great article, Mary. Way to confuse the MMBots with science.
I love this! I’m a huge sexology nerd, but I’ve never found a chart maker. Generic health sites are lame – webmd XP. I had always charted in my head, although informal, it was a help prier to being on the pill so I don’t have seizures.
Those lib-tarts have nothing on y’all! Those chicks only take the pill to help they’re little psychies feel in control, or like a dude XP…
My senior year of high school, I took a course called Independent Living, which covered everything from cooking to household budgets to balancing a checkbook and even parenting. I also took a basic health course that covered sex education. BOTH classes talked about the method of tracking your periods of ovulation to either become pregnant or to avoid pregnancy. There’s also the Standard Days Method (SDM) that was developed by Georgetown University and is 95% effective when used correctly. Then again, if the *wonderful* people at MMfA ever bothered to crack open a publication other than Mother Jones or TIME, they’d probably know all this already.
Actually it gets even worse. not only are you right about the rhythm method(been there, done that myself) did you realize that if you count ALL the women in the US between the ages of 18 and 49 there are only a little under 55,000,000 of them. That’s 17% of the population…why is “women’s” health(meaning contraception &, we all know abortion) included again?
Because the “women’s health” that the libtards want to cover are the 12 to 17 year olds. Oh, and they want to ESPECIALLY cover people who are -9 to 0 months old.
I Simply wish to say your article is as surprising. The clearness in your post is just excellent and I can assume you are an expert on this subject.
